White Flags at Night

White Flags at Night

The challenges of life created a relationship built on love, respect, and trust between KD King and her daughters. When she discovered both of her daughters were struggling with life-threatening addictions, that foundation was shaken and doubt crept in.

How had she missed it?
Did they want to get better?
Could they survive this, too?

Determined to do whatever it took to be an anchor for her daughters despite the paralyzing parental guilt and fear, she worked to give them their best shot at healing. But she had her own trauma, grief, and lingering self doubts to deal with. She hadn’t considered that she would first have to become her own anchor.

The more involved KD became with her daughters, the more dark secrets she discovered. Her family’s path toward healing, though wrought with missteps and setbacks, is a beautiful tribute to the power of surrender and an honest look at what it takes to truly cultivate peace . . . and it’s not what many of us may believe it is.

KD King

Karen Davis (KD) King is a first-time author and has been writing creative, inspirational works and poetry since childhood. She was born and raised in Northern Virginia where she remained until 2023, when she followed her two adult daughters to South Florida where she happily resides today. Her career began in Corporate America, but her search for meaning in life led her to working with elderly and at-risk youth populations and eventually as a full-time mom until her divorce in 2012. This event provided a challenging, but vital path of self-discovery, authenticity and liberation. She now has certifications in dance/fitness facilitation, mind/body nutrition, Reiki healing and sexuality/relationship coaching. Her work and trainings have come full circle and though she doesn’t claim to be an expert on anything specific, she considers herself to be a “Professional Human”, a term assigned to her from a fellow mentor/healer friend, based on her ability to embrace the good, bad and ugly aspects of the human experience. That title seemed to fit and has stayed with her for almost a decade.
