Social Media Series: Instagram

Blog, Marketing

Instagram is a photo and video sharing social media platform.

Users can post and edit images with captions or view the images of those users and friends that you follow. News organizations, magazines, events, interest groups and more use Instagram to share information. You can also use it. For example, you may post a sneak peak of your latest book cover. You may post a picture of a place where you write or create a contest to engage with followers. You can also create book quote images using one of the graphic creators we will cover later on.

Like Facebook and Twitter, you can set up an account by following the steps once you download the App or on Instagram.com. Try to remember that the better the quality your images are, the more likes you will probably receive on a post. Try to take artistic-looking photos from different angles. Once you take a photo or upload an image, you can edit it by adjusting brightness, saturation, contrast, warmth, highlights or by adding a filter. Like Twitter, you should pick your hashtags intentionally and post them with your photos.

Learn from the pros and other Instagram influencers by following these book-related accounts:

  • elizabeth_gilbert_writer (Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert)
  • ehfop (Ernest Hemingway Foundation)
  • catbookclub (Cats Only Book Club)
  • dogbookclub (No Cats Allowed Book Club)
  • parisreview (The Paris Review)
  • subwaybookreview (Subway Book Review)

Do: Use the Instagram editing tools wisely. Too much of one filter or too many adjustments will have your followers shaking their heads and asking, “What is that supposed to be a picture of?”

Do not: #Use #too #many #hashtags #in #your #post. Hashtags can highlight trends or emphasize keywords. But according to TopRank Online Marketing, “Any brand that posts 10 or more hashtags in a status update significantly hinders reach ability and reputation management.”
