FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VISTA, California, February 18, 2025—Torchflame Books launches a new imprint, Torchflame Books Large Print, to increase accessibility for readers of books produced by independent publishing houses. After intensive research, Teri Rider (CEO and Acquisitions Manager) and Jori Hanna (Director of Marketing and Public Relations) discovered a gap in the books available to large print readers when browsing the library shelves: a majority of large print books came from five main imprints, many of which are owned by the same company that specializes in producing books for the library market.
By launching Torchflame Books Large Print, Teri Rider and Jori Hanna aim to bring independently published books to readers who otherwise are limited to those produced by these few brands. Prior to this point, the most accessible way for a large print reader to have a similar reading experience was by enlarging the type in the eBook edition. Starting in February 2025, Torchflame Books will launch all newly released books and a selection of backlist titles in a large print edition to reach those readers without a screen.
“I’m really excited about our new Large Print imprint,” Jori Hanna said. “Books in large print editions offer readers of all ages a number of benefits beyond increased visibility due to the larger type. They help reduce eye strain caused by looking at screens all day, an increasing problem as screens become more prevalent in our daily lives,” she continued. “Additionally, they help encourage reluctant readers because the pages have fewer words and seem to go by faster. That provides a sense of accomplishment which can help people who struggle to focus on the words or are easily distracted.”
All books published under the new Torchflame Books Large Print imprint will be distributed within Ingram Content Group’s system and will be available for purchase through major retailers. There will also be a meaningful outreach to libraries, which is our primary purpose for creating the imprint.
“This is a great opportunity to shine a light on the capacity of Independent Publishers to provide more accessibility to readers of all kinds,” Teri Rider noted. “We’re trailblazing a little here, which makes us proud of what we can achieve, even as a small press.”
